Huge Cake fan here, too. Too many good songs to pick a favorite.

True, true. But I think Mexico is my favorite. I drunkenly cover that one quite often. It's a nice sing-a-long at parties, ya know?
And now that is the song I'm listening to.

and now me too. haha. Remind me of "pumkin in my room" by my and my dorm mate. Had the whole dorm singing along. Drunkenly.
"I've got a pumpkin in my room.
It will be leaving very soon.
It's got little bugs inside of it.
Soon it will smell just like…"
(everyone)Pumpkin! Pumpkin! Pumpkin in my room!
(second verse, same as the first) (and the third, doing shots all along)
Eh, what you want, it was Missouri? haha.

Despite it being a "hit" my fave Cake song is still, "short skirt, long jacket"
That was the song that got me into them, and still has genius lyrics.
"With fingernails that shine like justice And a voice that is dark like tinted glass
She is fast and thorough And sharp as a tack She's touring the facility And picking up slack"
I mean c'mon. and I aint even into chicks. Sheesh.

And hem of your garment. Cake and clothes. And cars. Satan is my motor, bucket seat… sheesh. And I only got half their albums. Need more.

Bring Sally Up – Moby
I just love the driving beat behind it for some reason. It's so repetetive, but it doesn't get old for me.
To add to the Cake discussion, I really really like their covers. I Will Survive, Guitar Man, etc.

Currently: Arctic Monkey performing "Crying Lightning" on Jimmy Fallon
As far as CAKE* goes, they are easily one of my top five "mainstream" rock groups. I have all of their albums, except B-sides and Rarities, which I will probably own eventually.
Favorite CAKE songs:
- Mr. Mastodon Farm
- Shadow Stabbing
- Stickshifts and Safetybelts
- Nugget
- Pentagram
- Sheep Go To Heaven
- You Part the Waters
- Italian Leather Sofa (also the theme from Mission Hill)
- Mexico
- Love You Madly
- Jesus Wrote a Blank Check
- End of the Movie
*Did you know that CAKE is officially spelled in all caps? Kinda like how The Aquabats! is spelled with an exclamation.

DID not know that about spelling, and yes, I need Lots more Cake. Are they on emusic? I’ll check.
For some reason, my fave CAKE songs are ones with lots of horns. I Like horns in altpop. Oingo Boingo, Beck, etc. If used well.

Kinda like Panic! At the Disco or Godspeed You! Black Emperor
Though I've wondered how Panic at the Disco (now with no exclamation point) will be credited with their old songs. Will there still be an exclamation point or will they get rid of it past and future?

shelter of your arms (unreleased work-in-progress) – paul simon
i discovered paul simon's solo work at a very formative period in my musical appreciation timeline and he easily became one of my top five all-time favorites*. as i started purchasing all of his albums, i decided to be very conscientious about it and only get one a year or so. that way, i'm able to completely devour each album at a time, becoming intimately familiar with it. this is a bonus track off the rerelease of hearts & bones, arguably one of his most under-rated albums. my favorite, however, is still graceland, the first one with which i became obsessed. in high school art classes, i would title my works after lyrics from that album. the only one i remember (incidentally, the one i gave my 10th grade girlfriend) was titled "she moved so easily, all i could think of was sunlight".
*for the record, in no particular order: paul simon, built to spill, beastie boys, the clash, talking heads

The Clearing by Micah Blue Smaldone. Well, listening to the album The Red River by Micah Blue Smaldone. Beautiful album. The cover art is pretty. Probably my favorite cover art of all the vinyl I have. Wait, no, that might be a lie. …Well… maybe. I really like it, either way.

Babe, It Ain't No Lie by Davy Graham. Totally ballin' song. TOTALLY ballin' dude. I used to listen to him a lot. The style in which I play guitar kind of mimics his because of it. Also because it's a totally awesome style. He's a goddamn god… hah.
