Again, the end of the year rolls around and Rolling Stone names their top albums of 2009. Again, I say "Really?!" There are a bunch in there I certainly don't agree with. U2 is the top album of 2009? Somehow I can't really understand that. Sure, U2 is alright, but definitely not the top album of 2009. Plus, Monsters of Folk should definitely be higher on the list. Green Day, Jay-Z, and Bruce Springsteen also in the top 5. Eh…

What are all of your thoughts on this? Surprised on some selections? Not so much surprised since it's Rolling Stone?

There is some good stuff in there, but, really?… U2's album is the best of the year?

I think it caters to their readers, or maybe their staff is that much like their readers? Either way, I think it shows how far Rolling Stone has become a not-so-radical magazine meant for the magazine basket in bathrooms of middle-American households. It's not the magazine of Hunter S Thompson in his heyday.

For all of its flaws, I like Pitchfork as a source for getting leads on albums I might not otherwise catch, and I think they delivered on that in their 'tops' list. Lots of what I would probably consider my favorite albums of the year also fall in theirs: http://pitchfork.com/features/…..of-2009/5/
