partly as a companion to rabidbadger's "pop masterworks" thread, and partly inspired by a discussion on a recent "Jordan Jesse Go!" podcast, i've been thinking about this topic: things that are great/awesome, but are ruined by their unbearable fans.
in the JJG! podcast, they listed Tenacious D, CAKE, and the film "The Big Lebowski" as examples. what would you add to this list?

A bunch of the music I listen to, honestly. Whenever I go to shows the fans act like pretentious little hipster assholes. I just wanna deck em all in the fucking nose. All the dudes are so hotdog-y and the girls are completely unfriendly unless you have a dick, stupid thin headband thing and a forearm tattoo.

Honesty. You all gonna hate me instantly, but…
Stairway to Heaven, and Freebird have become running jokes. But they are great songs.
Double Dog Dare you to listen to them both with headphones on, a dark room, and a clear mind, and tell me otherwise.

I'm going to have to agree with you, at least on Freebird. I just love when the driving beat kicks in. Always makes me wish I could jam with some friends again.

Alcohol can be awesome at times. It's a great way to relax with friends, after a long day, etc., but some of its "fans" have given it a bad reputation. Particularly the frat/party boys who go overboard and think it's hilarious to drink so much you piss yourself and brag about it. I can't stand those people, or the people that get really rude/aggressive. When I drink I do it to chill out. I'm not sure if all this even counts.

It totally does. And having just turned 21, I'll admit, I did a bunch of really stupid things back in February and March (near my birthday), but I don't dig people that are really ridiculous when they're drunk. And I especially don't dig people that get really rude/aggressive. Strangely enough, I just got an apology from someone who was a total dick to me last night while intoxicated.

You mean you think that is a good song gone bad? I hated that song when it came out. And it was overplayed instantly. Then again, I despised Journey from day one.
Funny thing is, I first though you meant "Don't look back" by Boston, which I think fits better into this category.

Hmm, because this is a music podcast I immediately thought music, but I guess you are talking all media.
Movie Ruined by fans: Blue Velvet. (Took me a while to see this, but the uberfans overhyped it so much it was a huge disapointment when I finally saw it)
TV: Lost. It was a fun show at first, but everyone overhyping it made me lose interest because I just didn’t “get” the fanatacism.
